The basic terms of Poker:
Hand: combination of cards held by the player.
Play: simple game that takes place one card to another.
Pot: accumulation of money wagered by players during a game. The game is to try to win the pot of money that grows after each game.
Hand Tie (situation of equality between the donor and the player): When two players hold the same hand, they must share the pot. When the pot is not divisible, the remaining amount is then up to the player who bet the largest amount.
Ante: money that players put into the pot before they see their cards. The antes are also called blinds (up to the blind, made forced).
Rake: commission claimed by the poker rooms. The latter charge a small portion of the pot won by the winner after each hand. This is their only source of income.
Showdown: final action to designate the winner of the pot after the last round of betting.
Starts:
Call: when a player follows it is identical to the previous player’s bet. It is also said to stay in the game.
Fold: any player can get rid of his hand to try to win the pot. A player who folds is considered inactive and loses its previous bets.
Raise: Any bid must be in an amount equal to the previous player’s bet, plus possibly an additional amount. This extra allows players to revive a bet. The other players can follow (ie increase the amount of them to reach the amount of the relaunched), lie down, or restart again.
Check: this is like going too. The player does not put any remaining in the game.
Hands:
It is recommended to know the order of cards: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack (V), Dame (D), King (R) and As (A) . Aces (A) is twofold: it is both the lowest card at the highest card. There is no hierarchy between colors. Le Roi de coeur has the same value as the King of spades. Poker Rankings are based on five cards only.
Familiarize yourself with the definitions and values of different hands. Here are the possible hands (in ascending order in terms of value): a pair, two pairs, three of a kind, straight flush, flush, full house, square, straight flush and royal flush.
A pair: the five-card hand with two cards of same rank. Eg: A-A-R-7-6 5 (a pair of Aces)
Two pairs: two different pairs + another card. Eg HAS-5 (a pair of As + a pair of Kings + 5)
tree of a Kind: the five-card hand with three cards of the same rank. Eg: A-A-A-3-2 (Kind of As)
Straight: five cards in hand of various ranks and follow. Eg 6-5-4-3-2 (straight 6)
Flush: Five cards of the same color which are not. Eg: A-9-7-5-2 of heart
Full House: Three cards of same value + a pair. Simply put, this is three of a kind + a pair. Eg: A-A-A-5-5
Four of a kind: four cards of the same rank plus one other card. Eg: A-A-A-A-3 (four of a kind As)
Straight Flush: Five cards of the same suit in consecutive order. Eg 7-6-5-4-3 of heart
Royal Flush: A-K-Q-J-10 combination with the same color. It is neither more nor less than the best straight flush available, especially the best possible hand in poker
